The new Atomos Shogun 7-inch Display includes an ultra-bright, 7-inch HDR screen, extremely readable outdoors. Record RAW video from a wide range of DSLR, mirrorless, and cinema cameras, with either SDI or HDMI connections. There are all sorts of on-screen tools to assist you with focus, exposure, customer LUTs, and metadata to help with your workflow. Shogun has that done for you so you can focus on creative ideas.

The Atomos Shogun 7-inch Display can capture RAW inputs up to 6K at 30 fps, and it can output simultaneously a standard viewable video signal via HDMI or SDI for devices that do not support RAW formats.

Shogun now comes with a new operating system, along with its flexible, 7-inch SuperAtom IPS screen that ensures sharper images and easy access to all the functions in AtomOS. The screen is outdoor-friendly, possessing an enormous 2000nits, and remains fully viewable even in full direct sun. Use the controls to set the display to optimal brightness in low-lighting environments.

AtomOS 11: 

Deeper clean, fresher air, faster performance

Introducing a new version of our operating system, AtomOS 11. Built with uniqueness in mind for the new Ninja and Shogun series, it is not only pretty to look at but brings with it a whole line of brilliant new features. The tools are more visible and have improved icons so you know exactly what you are selecting-you guessed it—easier to use, make perfect sense, and feel much more professional. AtomOS 11 is a new firmware that is meant to unleash the full Shogun, through optimized memory management, which reduces its responsiveness.

CUSTOM FILE SIZE SegmentPro

Another pretty cool new tool that you can only get via our completely redesigned AtomOS 11 operating system is SegmentPro. This segment/split long recordings into user-defined chunks for even more flexibility in the production workflow. The segmenting is defined by either setting a custom file size in GB or TB, or by time—all without dropping a frame.

With SegmentPro, you can fit your files into any workflow—even those that require smaller media: for example, if you are going to edit on an iPad. It is easier to share smaller files and safer, too: if you lose a big file, you have lost everything. Working with smaller files reduces the risk of such losses.

ATOMOS 11 Colorized Exposure: EL Zone System exposure referenced colorized image and ARRI False Color

A completely new feature in AtomOS 11, EL Zone, and ARRI colorized exposure display is a more powerful alternative to Atomos false color. All these features now allow Atomos monitors to present colored exposure consistently across multiple monitors in the production pipeline. EL Zone has been designed for camera operators who can get the true and exact scene-referred dynamic range, colorized in stops, directly from the camera. It’s ideal for monitoring exposure in both HDR and SDR production. A well-established industry standard, it’s the best way to see colorized exposure on a monitor.

TimeLapse

Set up time-lapse recording and control it directly from your Shogun 7-inch Display Screen, independently of your camera controls. Take advantage of the screen for optimal visual alignment and massive removable storage for longer projects.

RecordAssist

Set a time for recording. It works best when you want to cover pre-arranged events where you need to be elsewhere. You can even record in multiple locations simultaneously if you have several Shoguns. It’s also a safer way of covering dangerous locations without putting yourself and your colleagues at risk. Last but not least, it’s perfect for wildlife shooting. You want to capture the action by the riverbank at sundown. Just dial in the time and come back later.

Shogun 7-inch Display Codec Selection: Multiple codecs

These codecs come free in the new Shogun line, so you can pick and choose the perfect codec for your shot.

H.265 and DNx require the codec to be activated on my.atomos.com. It is an easy online process to get your Shogun registered to activate these codecs.

To unlock Apple ProRes RAW, you’ll need to go over to my.atomos.com. There is just a brief extra step to get an activation token to get started with the codec for free. All you have to do is plug in your compatible RAW camera to finish it off. You will only have to do this once to unlock this super flexible and unique codec without time restraints.

NDI HX2 TX & RX

NDI is the way to do video over ordinary networks (Wi-Fi and mobile) to enterprise digital IP. It does this in HD quality but with startlingly low bandwidth requirements. More and more now in the live production arena, your shogun can play its part in an NDI environment. This makes your Shogun an NDI source, which then is visible to all authorized devices on the network; the RX option allows you to receive NDI transmissions from compatible NDI devices.

Pick among a selection of industry-standard recording formats, including Apple ProRes. Choose the best frame size, frame rate, and codec suited for your project and delivery requirements. Shogun also lets you capture HDMI RAW inputs up to 6K at 30fps simultaneously with looping out standard YCC video via HDMI to non-RAW compatible devices.

Pair the Shogun equally well with smaller cameras as part of a minimalist setup, or with full-size camera rigs on large-scale productions. Shogun is made from precision materials and crafted for maximum durability with a solid aluminum frame. Weighing in at a mere 730g (1.6 lbs), you can use it comfortably with a handheld camera. Shogun includes anti-rotational ⅜ – 16 mount points on the top and bottom. It ships with a ¼-20 adaptor for easy mounting on industry-standard equipment from a wide range of manufacturers.

RemoteView

Atomos RemoteView lets you share incoming video on your Atomos screen with other Atomos monitors, as well as with iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs wirelessly. You can monitor what’s happening on-set and look through any connected camera taking the shot from anywhere in the world.

Atomos technology: Your camera’s view, anywhere

As there is no need for expensive hardware and it uses the public internet, Remote view is global. But Atomos technology ensures that there are no delays. You can receive up to four RemoveView feeds on a single screen. All of it is configurable from a simple web interface.

Security: Secure and personalized

For complete security, you can engrave a watermark on all of your remote feeds so there is no possibility of copying. You can even watermark your video with your or your customer’s logo. Or you can put in the movie name, date, and type of camera or any information that will be useful for you engraved to your remote feeds.

Camera rig: Extremely secure mount

From individual filmmaking to professional large-scale cinema productions, Shogun has been designed for any camera rig. It flaunts a multi-brand mount adaptable to different industry-standard equipment from various manufacturers. Upon locking in place, the mount is very secure and has anti-rotation settings so you will not be troubled by Shogun not staying in position at any time.

Atom Remote

The AtomRemote app for iOS and macOS provides several controls on Shogun, which allows you to configure and control your Shogun from up to 15 meters via Bluetooth LE when you connect cameras, set Gamma/EOTF, and make Gamut adjustments. Using AtomRemote you also have control over playback, the ability to select monitoring modes, apply custom 3D LUTs, and view image analysis tools, such as exposure and focus. You can output controls with 4K to HD, preview LUT, and output in HDR.

I/O options

Shogun’s full range of inputs and outputs lets you record the highest quality video available from the widest range of cameras, and connect you to the cloud, for new, ultra-speedy, and productive workflows.

Supported resolutions & frame rates

Internal compression records on most cameras as 4:2:0 8-bit to save space and support longer recordings. If the camera outputs via HDMI, quality can often be preserved in 4:2:2 8-bit or 10-bit. Shogun can record more color information and immediately add value to your production with your existing camera rig.

And, if you are shooting Log footage, the uncompression ability will allow you to take advantage of the ultimate dynamic range. Shogun is designed to ensure that your videos get the best quality and allow you to amplify all facets of your creative vision. Shogun also comes with 12G-SDI input, standard in all high-end cinema cameras, such as the Sony FX series, Panasonic EVA1, and Canon EOS C series. The strength and usability of SDI are important to the productions that depend on it. SDI RAW is at the ultimate end of its spectrum in terms of flexibility and quality, making Shogun the first choice for big-budget filmmakers worldwide.

Wireless Sync

Atomos AirGlu is also included with the Shogun and brings timecode, sync, and control technology for wireless purposes. AirGlu is a physical device that links multiple Atomos devices or compatible cameras, audio recorders, and software applications together, all sharing the same frame-accurate timecode. It is also able to transmit recording, battery status, and disk capacity information back to the server unit. Any AirGlu device can be used as the server unit – goodbye expensive budgets and time-consuming post-production workflows to create a perfectly in-synch, multi-camera video. AirGlu BT is the Bluetooth timecode sync protocol adopted by many camera and audio manufacturers and AirGlu RF is the long-range sync and control protocol between Atomos connect products.

Professional codec support

Shogun records in visually lossless “hero” files, ready for editing, but proxy/sharable files look good but upload quickly. Industry-standard formats and RAW codecs are flexible options.

It is flexible enough to fit into your workflow while at the same time meeting the requirements of your production. Shogun appreciates that selecting format, quality, resolution, frame rate, or file size may better suit your production needs.

AtomX SSDmini drive

The capacity to record up to 6K requires fast, robust, and expansive storage because the advanced edit-ready formats include ProRes RAW, ProRes, and DNxHD/HR. Shogun supports removable SSD drives, which provide the space as well as sustained performance to meet the requirements.

The smallest SSD drive supported by Shogun is more compact than standard SATA SSDs, but an AtomX SSDmini drive offers an affordable alternative to an SD card of similar capacity or performance. They come with up to 4TB storage, up to 550MB/s sequential read speeds, and up to 500MB/s write speeds. The AtomX SSDmini drives will record up to 150 minutes of 4K ProRes. Measuring only 8cm in length and 7.5cm in width and weighing as light as 88g, the custom-made drive fits snuggly into the Shogun Connect without impinging on the footprint of the unit.

SSDmini adaptor

An optional SSDmini adaptor allows CFAST II cards to be used, or you can recycle older media cards or align them with your camera media. Apart from SSDmini, we also qualify a range of 2.5-inch SSDs, which can be used along with the MasterCaddy III adaptor located in the Shogun box.

With Shogun, you’re only really limited by the capacity of the SSD you use to how much you can record. A core ethos of the Atomos devices is to make codec, resolution, and frame rate far more flexible than they are usually available with internal recording. Furthermore, SSD media offers more GB per $ than camera media cards. This means that you can have extended recorded times for long-form productions or recording events.
